Our offices, agents, and staff love to give back to their communities, and 2016 was another successful year on behalf of the causes they support. This year marked the $5 million mark for The Charitable Foundation, the nonprofit organization operated by real estate agents from our company.

Thank you to everyone who planned, participated, and donated this year! Here is a look at just a few of the amazing things our agents did in 2016 on their own, with their offices, and with The Charitable Foundation.

San Diego:

High Tea for Generate Hope

The Charitable Foundation partnered with Generate Hope to help change trafficked women’s lives. Ladies who attended the high tea also enjoyed boutique vendors, a fashion show, and a silent auction to raise funds.

Making Strides to End Breast Cancer

Our agents and staff participated in the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The team joined approximately 20,000 walkers, and covered four miles, beginning and ending in Balboa Park. The event raised more than $750,000.

Cecily’s Closet

The Charitable Foundation donated $1,500 to the Encinitas-based nonprofit devoted to providing support for children with special needs. Cecily’s Closet recycles durable medical equipment to children in need, provides free belly bands for children with feeding tubes, and offers sweet-dream room makeovers for children who spend a significant amount of time at home due to their disability.

Day at the Races

While spending a day at the Del Mar racetrack, The Charitable Foundation raised funds to benefit Warrior Foundation Freedom Station. Participants enjoyed food, drinks, a silent auction, and a raffle in addition to the races.

Orange County:

Cinco de Mayo Cruise

More than 180 agents, friends, and community members enjoyed a cruise around Newport Bay to raise funds for Boys Town California and Blind Children’s Learning Center. The 90-minute sunset cruise’s festivities included a silent auction, entertainment, and lively libations, and raised more than $14,000. The Orange County chapter of The Charitable Foundation organized the event.

Husband-Wife Agents Raise $10,000+ for Genetic-Disorder Research

Perla and Jorge Portillo of our Newport Beach office raised more than $10,000 at a community luncheon they organized to benefit Global Genes™, one of the world’s leading rare-disease patient-advocacy organizations. For the dynamic duo it was a personal mission; their 13-year-old daughter has a rare genetic disorder.

Island Party

The Charitable Foundation hosted an island party to have some fun and raise funds for two charitable foundations. The money raised and donations collected benefited FASH UNITED, an organization that raises awareness and support for anti-human trafficking, and FRoCS (Friends of Cathryn), which raises awareness and funds for research toward a cure for neuroblastoma.

Los Angeles:

Light Up the Night

Hors d’oeuvres, signature cocktails, and unparalleled views of the Los Angeles skyline, plus members of the Los Angeles chapter of The Charitable Foundation, all came together at the Hotel Angeleno to raise funds for Shelter to Solider and Strength United.

Shelter to Soldier: The Encinitas Mile

Beginning in 2015, the Calabasas office raised money to adopt and train Berkeley, a young dog who ran in the Encinitas Mile in March 2016 to raise money and awareness for Shelter to Solider. After being trained at an elite level, Berkeley will now serve the critical role of psychiatric service companion for a psychologically wounded post-9/11 combat veteran.

AIDS Walk Los Angeles

Once again, our Los Angeles agents, staff, affiliates, friends, and family members walked to make a difference and raise funds in the AIDS Walk.
