selling your home during the holidays

Author: Rosamaria Acuna

Do you think putting your home on the market in winter and during the holiday season is a bad idea? You would be surprised. Buyers at year end are serious and motivated, and inventory may be limited as other sellers wait for the New Year. Your home may be a standout, particularly if you get it prepared by taking some simple steps.

Declutter your home

Start packing – you are moving. We all have pictures and objects that we think are charming because they are part of our lifestyle. But the potential buyer is not charmed by them and sees nothing but distractions. You want buyers to picture themselves in the living spaces you are selling, and not sidetracked by your personal objects. .

Freshen the home with a thorough cleaning

Don’t be hesitant to repaint rooms that look “tired.” A few dollars spent does wonders for the appearance. Wash the windows inside and outside, and power-wash the exterior. Don’t forget curb appeal. Keep the yard free of debris and leaves. The effects of drought can be minimized with evergreen trees, or container plants and cold-weather flowers to make the premises inviting.

Clippers1

For now there’s just a tennis court, but a basketball court is sure to follow at the $8.95 million Calabasas estate recently bought by Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul. A life-changing decision

When luxury real estate specialist Maxine Gellens decided to compete in the first San Diego Dancing with the Stars fundraiser in 2013, she had no idea it would literally change her life. In just a few short months, Maxine, an agent with our La Jolla Arcade office, went from dance novice to serious competitor with a passion for her newfound sport.

But Maxine’s dance moves haven’t only impacted her. They also benefited the San Diego Family Justice Center Foundation’s efforts to support victims of domestic violence, child abuse, stalking, and sexual assault; and increase awareness of the San Diego Police Historical Association’s museum on College Avenue.

Along with her daughter and business partner, Marti Gellens, Maxine helped organize this year’s event, and took to the dance floor at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines on Dec. 5 to raise funds on behalf of the two beneficiaries.
