Since opening its Beverly Hills luxury department store in 1994, Barneys New York has been a staple for the fashion-forward residents of Southern California. But like fashion, design trends change and a fresh perspective is needed to stay current. Steven Harris Architects was called upon to bring that fresh perspective to the recent renovation of the Beverly Hills location. Both the first and fifth floors have experienced a chic remodel. Included in the beauty department makeover is a new location on the lower level featuring 9,000 square feet of cosmetics, the addition of Crème de La Mer and Mila Moursi spa treatment rooms, and a Blow Bar by Valery Joseph.

For children around the world, Halloween is one of the best nights of the year. After all, when else can they dress however they choose and stock up on endless amounts of candy? While the spirit of the holiday is meant to be celebrated in good fun, Halloween can be dangerous if children and their parents aren’t careful. Follow these tips to ensure that you have both a spooky and safe Halloween.

  1. Plan your route. Planning in advance where you’ll be going can help you and your child stay on the same page and avoid getting lost. Some families may not live in a trick-or-treat-friendly area. If you’re traveling outside your neighborhood, consider showing your child the route before the holiday.
  2. Plan your group. Avoid trick-or-treating alone at all costs. If you can’t go with your child, ensure that they are with another trusted adult. Consider forming a group in your neighborhood to walk together. There is safety in numbers.

The Charitable Foundation has donated $10,000 to support foster children, who on average live in seven homes during their lifetimes.

In addition, The Foundation is “adopting” Boy 5A, a statue of a 4-year-old who represents the more than 20,000 children currently in the Los Angeles County foster-care system. The hybrid fiberglass-material statue stands four feet tall and was created by Pasadena sculptor and visual artist protégé Matthew “Scout” Segotta. It will be on display at seven public spaces for seven weeks around the county to represent the seven homes of a foster child.  (more…)
