Planning a San Diego picnic can be no picnic–especially for a romantically inclined couple or anyone who wants to celebrate a special occasion outdoors. There’s finding the right location, hoping it’s available when you want it, creating a menu, packing the food and utensils, lugging it all to the picnic site, and cleaning up after it’s all over.

If you’ve ever wished you could just leave the duties to someone besides an expensive caterer, your picnic prayers have been answered. Pop Up San Diego will do all of the above and more. You just show up. Sunset toasts on the beach, marriage proposals, small get-togethers – this El Cajon-based company will take care of all the details. Their motto: “We do the work, you take the credit!”

Orange County brunch

Brunch is one of those words you can’t say angry. Even thinking about it makes the mouth water, as pleasant notions of heaps of hearty food, good friends, and tasty beverages float through the imagination.

Picking the “best brunch” in Orange County might seem an impossible task, considering the wide variety of tastes and flavors available throughout the region, but there are a few eateries that truly stand out.

Give your taste buds a treat and discover for yourself if any of the following restaurants and cafes live up to their reputations:

  • Ramos House Cafe: The swallows aren’t the only things that return to San Juan Capistrano every year. People who enjoy the weekend brunch at Ramos House have discovered that the sumptuous fare is well worth the trek from just about anywhere in the world. Set in the heart of Los Rios Historical District, Ramos House offers brunch Saturday and Sunday every weekend in one of the oldest structures still standing in Orange County. But the modern menu featuring crab hash, bacon scramble, and a unique Bloody Mary that comes with a Scotch egg and a lobster claw truly completes the entire eating experience. (more…)

Channel Islands

A daytrip to any of the five islands that comprise Channel Islands National Park is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of urban life. But for some people, a day isn’t long enough.

If you’re a hardy adventurer who wants to spend more time soaking in the wonders of these close yet remote ecosystems, you can reserve an overnight campsite managed by the National Park Service.

Year-round campgrounds are on Anacapa, eastern Santa Cruz, western Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara islands. There are no entrance fees to visit the park, but the park service charges $15 per night per campsite.
