Now you can permanently enjoy the simple, delicate art of a bygone era with a custom silhouette by renowned artist Karl Johnson. His modern take on this traditional art form continues to inspire and amaze young and old alike with its delicate and graceful lines, and stark contrast of dark and light. He hand -cuts each portrait in just minutes, and can even capture the profile of rambunctious little ones with no problem. Plus, this is probably the only type of portrait where you don’t need to dress up or need makeup!

Mother's Day in Los Angeles

With Mother’s Day approaching, there’s no lack of ways to show Mom your appreciation before, on, or after May 10–especially in a city as big as Los Angeles. Of course there are the traditional brunches, flowers, and boxes of candy. But why not consider something less predictable, maybe even daring? Here are some suggestions for making Mom’s day memorable:

Climb aboard a Cessna or Piper aircraft for a 45-minute flight from Van Nuys Airport over downtown L.A., Hollywood, Santa Monica, and the San Fernando Valley. You might not see any celebrities, but you might see their homes from high above. Website and tickets (more…)

Los Angeles County events

In this unique global running and wheelchair event, participants in 35 locations around the world will all start running at the exact same time in a race for spinal-cord injury research. This event is unique because participants will be racing against the Catcher Car, an innovative moving finish line that pursues runners from behind. The race does not end until the last runner on Earth is caught by the car, and the last man and woman caught are named Global Champions. Last year’s man and woman champions ran 46.4 and 32.35 miles, respectively. Runners will be participating during the day, night, spring, and autumn, depending on the location of the run. This run is sponsored by Wings for Life, a not-for-profit spinal-cord research foundation. Spiral-cord injury can lead to many problems, including chronic pain, bladder dysfunction and temperature regulation. One hundred percent of your entry fee will go to life-changing research project and all administrative costs are kindly covered by the Red Bull company.

Los Angeles event

One of the most unusual walking events in Southern California occurs in Los Angeles over the first weekend in May. The Big Parade is a two-day trek that involves more than 80 staircases across 40 miles through many L.A. neighborhoods. 2014’s walk started in Grand Park in downtown and meandered all the way up to Griffith Observatory, and will take the same route this year. The route and timetable are easy to pick up and catch up, and you can start at the beginning or join along the way.
