Cooks-Corner

Don’t let the rows of Harleys out front intimidate you. Cook’s Corner is a biker bar, but you don’t have to ride on two wheels to feel welcome at the oldest roadhouse in south Orange County. Once fairly isolated, the laidback landmark in Trabuco Canyon is now just a few hundred yards from rows of upscale suburban homes, restaurants, and shopping centers. And it’s a good neighbor, beckoning all walks of life.

The place got its start in 1926, when Earl Cook, son of the surrounding lands’ owner, converted a cabin into a restaurant for local miners and ranchers. He turned it into a bar after Prohibition ended in 1933. Right after World War II, he bought an old mess hall from the decommissioned Santa Ana Army Air Base and launched the tavern. A Santa Ana bike-accessories owner bought the joint in 1970 and shaped it into the old-fashioned roadhouse it remains today.

Orange County events

The world’s largest pet and pet products expo comes to Orange County for one weekend only. The expo features activities for the whole family such as a reptile show, cat program, kid’s aquarium contest, police K-9 demonstrations, bird show, pig racing, dog breed exhibits, dog training, and more. If there’s an animal lover in your family, this event is for you. Although pets are not able to attend the event, attendees will find everything they need for a happy home.

Do you know that the guy who played R2-D2 in six “Star Wars” films has his footprints in cement outside the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood? Of course you do. That’s why you’re attending Star Wars Celebration, “the ultimate fan experience focused on a galaxy far, far away…” Dozens of actors, writers, producers, crew, and behind-the-scenes Lucasfilm types will be on hand for four days of panels, screenings, autograph sessions, costume-strutting, pin trading and…well, you know all the rest that goes on at this out-of-this-world event just a meteorite’s throw from the happiest place on this earth.

Orange County wine festival

The Orange County California Wine Festival, voted one of the top 10 best in the U.S., offers wine, food, music, sea, and sun. Enjoy California’s best wineries and their hundreds of vintage reds and whites, complemented by the sunny seaside setting. You’ll also find dozens of the region’s top chefs and specialty food purveyors, who will be serving up gourmet appetizers and more. Friday will feature a “Sunset Reserve and Rare Wine Tasting Experience,” and Saturday will feature the Beachside Wine Festival. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the protection of the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches.
