All proceeds from this new and exciting event will benefit the animals at the zoo.

May is Public Gardens Month in Santa Barbara, and what better way to celebrate it and get inspired than by exploring that vast amount of open public spaces dedicated to nature’s bounty spread throughout the county? Santa Barbara has some of the most beautiful climate and topography in the world, which makes gardens like Casa del Herreo, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, and Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden truly wonders to behold. In case you get truly inspired, there will be plant sales throughout the event so you can start a garden at home, plus workshops and tours where you can learn about native bird life and their relationship to the environment.

Goleta Valley Beautiful is all about the promotion of sustainability, beautification projects, community pride, and contribution to diverse and healthy urban forests. On May 3, winners will be honored at the annual awards benefit. The event also features a silent auction, live music, food, and beverages. Proceeds benefit Goleta Valley Beautiful’s tree planning and maintenance efforts.

Learn how to attract the great diversity of birds native to Santa Barbara into your own garden, where you can enjoy them from your home. In this workshop hosted by the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, you’ll find out how to incorporate native plants and design a habitat that is both attractive and safe for birds. The class is taught by Frederique Lavoipierre, education program manager and author of Pacific Horticulture’s Garden Allies series.
