Looking for a lecture with some real teeth to it? Underwater photographer Richard Salas will introduce you to “Charming Sharks I Have Known” at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Salas has written a trilogy about his 4,000-mile sea adventure and up-close, personal encounters with the “often misunderstood” fish. His goal is to change your view of the world’s sharks, revealing where threats truly lie through humor and passion. He will be available to sign his book, available in the museum shop.

Award-winning travel photographer Chuck Place is spending two full days teaching students through lectures, location shooting, and personalized critiques. Students will gain experience shooting architecture, people, food, and activities. Place will use the skills he developed while shooting for clients like National Geographic, Islands Magazine, and Smithsonian Books to show students how to create dynamic travel photos.

Get to know the apes during Ape Awareness Day at the Santa Barbara Zoo. Zookeepers have prepared informational activities relating to the zoo’s two Western lowland gorillas and a pair of white-handed gibbons. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the apes and how they are different from monkeys. Learn how they survive in the wild and what life is like for them in Santa Barbara.
