Even though California might have some of the most beautiful weather anywhere, and an almost year-round growing season, every gardener still has to endure a number of potentially plant-destroying situations. Variances in the quality of soil, pests, and lack of (or too much) sunlight or water can devastate even the best-laid plans and gardens.
However, the good people at GroGreen Box have come up with a solution as innovative as it is effective: raised-garden box kits. Lovingly handcrafted out of genuine California redwood, these planters provide an attractive as well as functional way to grow and nurture almost any type of fruit or vegetable year round.

There are few luxury brands that can compete with the scope of Louis Vuitton. The French retailer has seen a steady buzz over the past year, starting with the release of Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière’s first women’s collection in March for fall and winter, after the departure of Marc Jacobs. In October, the spectacular Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton museum opened in Paris. Next up is a renovation of the iconic Fifth Avenue flagship in NYC.
But for now, all eyes are on the newly unveiled Beverly Hills boutique. Located in its original location on the corner of Rodeo Drive and Dayton Way with more than 3,000 additional square feet of retail space, the 12-month renovation has given way to a sculptural, triangular-shaped building with a gleaming stainless steel and lacquered ivory facade.

When you think ski chalet, it’s likely that sleek and modern is not the first thing that comes to mind. Instead, a more rustic, sloped-roof homemade of raw woods and stone is a more common image. All that may be changing now that Apple Store architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson has been commissioned to design an upscale ski community. The new collection of homes, The Stellar Collection, is part of the luxury Mountainside Northstar Lake Tahoe brand.
The firm was asked to think outside the box. The developer did not want a traditional ski chalet, but rather something new and modern. Drawing inspiration from modern Alpine buildings around Europe, BCJ came up with a fresh new design. These homes not only look different on the outside–featuring large windows, simplistic design, and void of embellishments–but the inside is also different. Interiors still feature natural materials, but not in the traditional sense. The home is warm and inviting. Light floods the home and there’s a clean and airy feeling inside. The renderings of both the interior and exterior give off a more urban feel than your traditional skiing community.
