It affected every agent, every staff member, every transaction. Yet our Ventura office never closed as the Thomas fire that began Monday, December 4, engulfed much of the coastal city. It has been classified as the largest wildfire in recorded California history. Despite everything, the office managed to thrive as a community resource, keeping those affected apprised and safe in their time of need.

“The estimate is that about 600 homes were burned to the ground in the city,” Branch Manager Lyle Elliott said. “Two of our agents lost their homes, another’s home was badly damaged and can’t be lived in, one lost their rental property, and one’s father lost his home. (more…)

View some rollin’ blasts from the past in Old Town Camarillo the fourth Sunday of each month through October at the Sunday Cruise. Classic pre-1980 domestic vehicles will be on display during the day for oohing, aahing, and ogling, along with food, a beer garden, and live music. After checking out the wheels, stick around for dinner and take a stroll around the beautiful area.

Water conservation is a topic those of us in Southern California are all too familiar with. While in the midst of one of the most severe droughts on record, it’s no surprise that counties throughout California are putting together programs to incentivize residents to take part in conservation efforts. Rebates are available for homeowners as well as renters, and typically fall into one of two categories. Rebates can be obtained for indoor and outdoor water-saving technology. Rebates can be obtained through programs from California American Water and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Many of these rebates can easily be applied for online.

The California Jazz and Wine Fest is back for the fourth consecutive year. Spend the day seeing jazz groups, sipping wine and beer, and sampling gourmet cuisine. The jazz lineup includes Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Oskar Cartaya Enclave with guest Justo Amario, as well as other bands. The festival is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise. All attendees must be 21 or older.
