Ventura County events

Four Ojai-based organizations team up once a year to host Earth Day, a free community event that celebrates sustainable living, global awareness, and the joy of nature. The event will include live entertainment, world food, environmental presentations and exhibits, art, a field day, yoga, community involvement, and great ideas for our world. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to find ways to live greener and appreciate the natural wonders we all share. It all happens under the trees on Oak Grove School’s 150-acre campus. Just bring your refillable water bottles and leave your dogs at home.

Time hasn’t exactly stood still in the Heritage Valley. But it’s about as close you can get to an earlier version of California, just 45 miles north of Los Angeles.

Blessed with mostly sunny days year round, the valley in Ventura County is home to many historical and recreational attractions, primarily in Fillmore–“the last best small town in Southern California”–and Santa Paula–“citrus capital of the world” thanks to its miles of lemon, orange, and avocado orchards.

Ventura sand art

Imagery provided by: Andres Amador

Enjoy the art of one of the most interesting artists in California on the Ventura coast. Using the sand for his canvas and the sea for his palette, Andres Amador uses but a single rake and his imagination to create stunning scenes that span the shore, sometimes longer than 100,000 feet. The tide and waves can wash away his work after a few minutes, truly reinforcing the notion that beauty can be fleeting, and to appreciate it while it lasts. The three days of art include a workshop, community art project, and a free demonstration of how to create your own sand art.
