The decision to rappel down San Diego’s tallest waterfront hotel might not be an easy one for some people, but Berkshire Hathaway California Properties real estate agent Carlos Gutierrez sees it as an excellent way to raise awareness for the fight against brain cancer. With his participation in Over the Edge, an event featuring 82 volunteers venturing down the Grand Hyatt San Diego, Gutierrez personally helped raise $4,700 for the Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure organization, making a strong contribution to the event total of $200,000.
The event was completely sold out and featured a number of local celebrities, such as Hannah and Susie Nancarrow, family of Loren Nancarrow, Maria Parker, a record setting long-distance cyclist, and Monika Carlson, a brain tumor survivor. Spectators gathered by the pool at the Grand Hyatt for high-energy entertainment, food, and fitness opportunities.
“This was an incredibly memorable experience and a great chance to support the fight against brain cancer,” said Gutierrez.
A specialist in the marketing and sale of residential real estate, Gutierrez is known for his commitment to ethical business practices and focus on serving the community. In fact, the tenacity and determination that he applies to help the community recently earned him an induction into the La Jolla chapter of the Rotary Foundation.
“Service in our business, community and personal life is what Rotary is all about, so being inducted is a great honor for me,” said Gutierrez, an avid supporter of The San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation, Challenged Athletes Foundation, MS Society, and Marshall Faulk Foundation.
“Carlos is a perfect match for our ideals and a wonderful addition to the club,” commented Russell King, president of the La Jolla Rotary.
