Cliff Helbock

“Low-key but powerful” is how people in the real industry describe him, Cliff Helbock says. A look at his 30-year track record proves them right.

Helbock, broker/manager of the Escondido office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, has paved the way to successful careers for hundreds of licensed agents.

“I love to recruit, train and retrain agents,” he said. “Many of my agents have been with me 10 years or more. We have a very high retention rate in my office, about 95 percent year to year.

“I just love to see agents succeed. For me it’s almost better than getting paid to see their eyes light up when they get their first commission check or achieve their next goal.”

A San Diego State University graduate, Helbock holds a master’s degree in business administration with a specialty in e-commerce. The Escondido office is very advanced technologically, he said. Every Monday morning, a “Cliff’s Notes” training session is held to keep agents updated on the latest industry news and techniques, especially social media. Those efforts have paid off.

“Four out of five times, we win on listing presentations,” Helbock said. “Most of our agents have had their best year ever in 2014. Since we’re part of the fifth-largest corporation in the world, we’re always bragging because we’re partners with H.J. Heinz and See’s Candies and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. It’s really enabled us to get more listings, especially elite properties.”

The office’s location in a large shopping center gives agents another opportunity to advance their careers. “We have great walk-in business,” he said. “Floor time is fantastic for agents. They receive a three-hour shift about eight times a month, and they average about one new client a week.

“Having recruited many experienced agents, I am passionate about them getting to the next level of their success. As I have stated many times, ‘The office is my agents’ achievements.’”
