Even though San Diego might not be the first place that leaps to mind when you think of festive holiday activities, thanks to the year-round sunshine and palm trees, if you know where to look you can find something that will satisfy your winter-holiday desires.
Nowhere is this combination of sun and fun more apparent than at the world-famous Hotel del Coronado by the warm sands of the Pacific Ocean. Located near the southernmost point of the western United States, this four-star establishment offers a host of traditional winter fun, albeit with a special Southern California twist.
Here are a few holiday activities at Hotel Del that you and your family might enjoy:
- Skating by the Sea – From Thanksgiving through Jan. 4, you can experience real ice skating a stone’s throw from the Pacific. The rink is on the Windsor Lawn, where you can take in the breathtaking view of Coronado while you bundle up on the ice, right under the swaying palm fronds.
- Holidays at The Del – Ever since 1888, the Hotel del Coronado has been a central location for celebrating the holidays in San Diego. The debt of the first electrically lighted outdoor Christmas tree in America in 1904 set the tone for the rest of the holidays to follow. Even now, The Del offers beachfront ice skating, holiday feasts, creative decorations, and a dazzling display of white lights that bedeck the stunning, historic Victorian architecture.
- New Year’s Celebrations – Bring in 2015 in grand style when you celebrate at The Del’s New Year’s Eve Gala. Starting at 7 p.m. with a champagne reception in the historic Crown Room, you can enjoy a sumptuous dinner while dancing the night away with San Diego’s own The Mar Dels, topped off with the traditional champagne toast as the clock strikes midnight.
Whatever your holiday traditions, something can be found at the Hotel del Coronado that will suit everyone in your family. For more information, visit http://hoteldel.com/activities/coronado-events.
