There are few occasions that call out for good beer and good food like the Super Bowl. This contest of gladiators of the gridiron brings out a hunger and thirst like no other, and if you are hosting a party or get-together of any sort you better bring your “A” game for the biggest game of the year. Depending on what you’re serving, you should probably stock up on a wide variety to beers and snacks for your Super Bowl party:
Wings: Wings are a foundation of just about any get-together involving football, and nowhere are they more important than at the big game party. However, to get the most out of them and maximize their spicy, smoky, and savory flavors, it’s best to pair wings with a beer such as an American-style India Pale Ale (IPA).
Brats and dogs: These football staples deserve to be front and center at any Super Bowl party, but few people know which beers truly complement their unique flavors. Though every culture has some form of sausage, why not go right to the source and pick a German beer for your party? Try a beer that won’t overwhelm the flavor, such as a Marzen or even an Austrian Bohemian-style lager, to make your dogs really bark.
Burgers: What Super Bowl party would be complete without the greatest American contribution to party food: the hamburger. With so many options for preparing, composition, condiments, and presentation, you’d probably think that there are as many different beer combinations as there are styles. And it turns out, you’re right. But a few great standbys are rich in flavor, such as porters and ales, and when paired with your favorite burger will bring out all the great tastes they offer.
The Super Bowl comes but once a year, and so when you want to wow yourself and your guests, be sure that when the time comes you give them the best combination of beer and food for your big game party. If you follow these simple suggestions, you will be well on your way to having the best Super Bowl party yet!
