January is a great month to enjoy all that Southern California has to offer. Here are our top picks for things to do in January.

Carlsbad Marathon
Head to Carlsbad on January 19 to run or cheer on runners along the coast in the annual Carlsbad Marathon, San Digeo’s oldest marathon. There will be a kids marathon mile as well as a health and lifestyle expo. Live bands at each mile marker help set the pace and speed runners on their way.

The LA Art Show is the West Coast’s most comprehensive art experience, with three distinct sections: Modern & Contemporary, Historic & Traditional Contemporary, and the IFPDA Los Angeles fine Print Fair, showcasing the highest caliber galleries enhanced by exceptional programming and special exhibitions. Show runs from January 16-19, 2014.
Farmers Insurance Open
One of golf’s biggest events of the year is the Farmers Insurance Open at the iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course. The Farmer’s Insurance Open will take place from January 23-26, 2014 and visitors will have the opportunity to see the PGA Tour players up close. Annual Whale Migration
If seeing a gray whale is on your bucket list, head over to Dana Point or Newport Beach in January. Best sightings run from December – April. The deep nutrient waters surrounding Newport Harbor is considered some of the most fertile waters in Southern California.

If you love food, it’s a great time to be in Southern California in January. Restaurant Week is a part of a month-long celebration of California dining. Thanks to California Restaurant Month, food connoisseurs can sample cuisine from more than 30 California destinations.
