Composting and growing your own veggies are all the rage now, but where should you start? This water-wise composting and vegetable gardening class will teach you how to create a healthy biology for your lawn, how to make a potent compost tea, and the many ways to encourage and invite beneficial insects into your garden. The classes are presented by esteemed industry professionals whose goal is to promote efficient water use, the protection of local water supply and, of course, help your garden flourish. Meetings allow attendees to mix and mingle with fellow local gardening enthusiasts, and enjoy complimentary refreshments before and after presentations. Classes are popular and have limited space, so early reservations are encouraged.

Wildwood Park

Thousand Oaks is more than acre upon acre of suburban homes interrupted by shopping malls. It’s also home to 1,700-acre Wildwood Park, a sprawling recreational area featuring waterfalls, archeological sites, and an extensive multiuse trail system for hikers of all levels. Many residents of the city northwest of Los Angeles in Ventura County aren’t even aware that the park’s natural beauty beckons just off Highway 101. Literally a few steps from neatly manicured backyards bordering a gently sloping canyon, Wildwood also offers nature hikes, biking, horseback riding, summer day camps, and interpretive programs.

What:
Diversity Collective is hosting this year’s AIDS Walk Ventura, bringing it back to the county for the first time since 2011. AIDS Walk Ventura is a fun and easy way to raise funds and awareness for AIDS in Ventura County and has a long history within the community. The goal of AIDS Walk is to reduce and eventually eliminate the spread of HIV/AIDS. Top teams will be given awards and all participants will be provided with entertainment, free drinks, fruit, and other foods. If you are unable to physically join in, you can register as a Virtual Walker online and still raise funds. Unlike similar walks, all funds raised for AIDS Walk Ventura remain local.
