About architect Jeff Shelton

Jeff grew up at the base of the Santa Ynez Mountains in Santa Barbara, in what had been an early 1900s boarding school. His family lived in a library, an infirmary, and in classrooms. Jeff didn’t live in a building designed to be a house until college.

After Jeff graduated from architecture school at the University of Arizona in Tucson, he worked for the influential architect Frank Robinson, who became his mentor. Jeff later worked in downtown Los Angeles for 10 years, which gave him experience in how to approach projects, as well as the difficult situations that arise during the process of designing and constructing buildings. He worked on the Bradbury Building, Grand Central Market, Traveltown in Griffith Park, and the DWP Pumping Station in Elysian Park.

In 1994, he returned to Santa Barbara, where he built over 50 buildings including a group of buildings downtown, working within the city’s Spanish/Moorish guidelines.
