It was built by “Case Study” architectural designer Rodney Walker as his own home

Located up a private drive on legendary Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, this enchanting home sits on a beautiful grassy promontory, seemingly floating above panoramic views by day and incredible city lights by night.

The house at 15154 Mulholland Drive atop Bel-Air was designed by renowned architectural designer Rodney Walker, who lived in the residence with his family in the 1950s. He was one of several famed architects and designers who participated in the “Case Study Houses” program that showcased the best of Modernism.

Walker is recognized for playing a direct role in the construction and grading of his homes, working with a small group of carpenters. Stephanie Payab in our Encino office is a co-listing agent for the 1,826-square-foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home on an 8,230-square-foot lot. Price is listed at $2,299,000.

Sleek forms, indoor/outdoor living

Boasting sleek, geometric Mid-Century forms, this open-floorplan design seamlessly blends clean lines of steel, wood, and glass. Walker’s distinctive architectural sensibilities abound throughout. Fleetwood sliding doors harmoniously merge indoor and outdoor living.

Interior details include newly updated bathrooms and kitchen, epoxy-metallic concrete floors, and a wood-burning fireplace. A security system with Ring doorbell helps owners keep an eye on the residence.

Stunning backyard views and an endless pool

The backyard with stunning views features an “endless pool” with multiple lounging and entertaining areas, plus a grassy lawn. Eco-friendly landscaping abounds all around the home. A Tesla charger is in the carport. The home is 4.1 miles to The Getty, 1.4 miles to the Skirball Cultural Center, 12 miles to the Santa Monica Pier, 9 miles to the Hollywood Roosevelt, and 7 miles to Studio City.

About architectural designer Rodney Walker

Walker worked for a time in the office of famed architect Rudolph Schindler in the late 1930s for $14 a week just to hone his drafting skills. Living in Los Angeles brought him into contact with renowned photographer Julius Schulman, who was to document a number of Walker projects over the next two decades for John Entenza, the publisher of Arts and Architecture magazine, who had recently begun the “Case Study Houses” program as a means to showcase the best of Modernism. The Case Study Houses gave Walker recognition and he began to receive more commissions to design and build homes in Los Angeles. Walker is believed to have built over 100 houses in the Los Angeles area, of which only about 35 have been identified.
