What:
After the tragic passing of high school athlete and scholar Chelsea King while she was out on a training run in 2010, the San Diego running community decided to honor her memory and finish her run for her. Turnout was so high that her parents decided to repeat the event each year to help spread the word about “Chelsea’s Law” and commemorate their daughter’s legacy.
Now her memory is celebrated each year as the Finish Chelsea’s Run 5k Run/Walk, a charity event that benefits the Chelsea’s Light Foundation Sunflower Scholarship Fund. The fund helps provide scholarships for college-bound teens throughout San Diego that embody Chelsea’s dual focuses of academic and athletic devotions. To date, this fundraising drive has provided over $85,000 in scholarships to deserving students around the county.
