What:
Kids love puppets. But not every kid can say they built their very own furry friend. They can, though, on Jan. 24 at Puppet School’s Los Angeles campus in Sherman Oaks in a crafty class filled with fleece, feathers and fun.
In this two-hour workshop, kids ages 5 to 11 will go step-by-step, tracing, cutting, hot gluing (with very low-temperature glue guns), and decorating their own puppets under the supervision of the school’s talented and friendly builders. Parents are invited to the last 30 minutes to watch their kids perform with their new friends. Limit 12 students per class.

What:
On Oct. 1, 1787, the American tall ship Lady Washington set sail from Boston Harbor. A year later, she became the first U.S-flagged ship to ever round Cape Horn, landing off the Oregon coast.
A pioneer in Pan-Pacific trade, she was the first American ship to visit Honolulu, Hong Kong and Japan. Lady Washington opened the black pearl and sandalwood trade between Hawaii and Asia when King Kamehameha became a partner in the ship.
Get a feel for what it was like aboard the great lady in February as a faithful replica stops by for tours and excursions at Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. Crew will be on hand in period costume to answer questions and tell stories during free tours. Donations are appreciated. Adventure sails will be offered on specific dates as well, $39-$47.

When it comes to getting a mortgage, your credit history has a lot to do with whether you will qualify and what type of interest rates you’ll get. If you’ve foreclosed on a house in the past, the challenges of getting a mortgage are increasingly difficult, although not impossible. Typically, to get a new home you’ll be required to wait somewhere between one and seven years.
Your lender will start the process by looking at your credit history, credit rating, and how long it’s been since your foreclosure. There is no official timeline for how long you have to wait; rather, the amount of time depends primarily on your financial state. The loan type you apply for will also make a difference. Some loans are more forgiving than others.
