By now it’s no longer news to anyone living in Southern California that residents are in the middle of an extreme drought. New restrictions have been enforced and government and community leaders are urging residents to conserve whenever possible. Although the need to comply with new restrictions is paramount, don’t miss out on the potential savings opportunities available to you for your conservation efforts!

Our current drought is one of the worst in California’s history and we are currently depleting our reserves. Conservation is the key to getting through the drought and recovering quickly. In an effort to encourage conservation participation local and state authorities are offering rebates and incentives for residents that meet certain criteria.

To see if you qualify for rebates or incentives, start first with your appliances. High-efficiency washers, toilets, rotating nozzles, weather-based irrigation controllers and soil sensors may all qualify. If your home uses turf grass, now is the time to replace it! Turf removal rebates start at $2.00 per square foot from SoCal Water$mart, but other local authorities, such as The San Diego Water Authority offer additional rebates. If you’re going to replace your turf be sure to apply for all qualifying rebate programs. (more…)

SD-Fair

If you live in the San Diego area, especially the communities north of downtown, you likely already know it’s that time of year again; time for the San Diego County Fair (formerly known as the Del Mar Fair).  Although traffic this time of year often becomes the bane of many our existence, the fair has a multitude of events catering to all age groups. This year we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite events and activities. We hope to see you at the Fab Fair this year, it runs June 7th– July 6th.

  1. No fair experience is complete without indulging in food concoctions you’ve never seen or even dared to dream of before. If you only have one day to go to the fair this year, consider choosing July 5th and invest in pants with an elastic waist. For all the pork lovers out there, Bacon Fest is not to be missed. The event features creative dishes from some of the best chefs nationwide.
  2. Looking to fill up on liquids instead of protein? The fair has you covered with not one, but two events. The wine festival takes place on June 14th and offers up unlimited 1 ounce wine samples. Give yourself a week of recovery and head back for the beer festival running June 20-22nd and featuring over 400 beers. Designated drivers are strongly encouraged.
  3. Has the wedding bug hit close to home? Whether you’re the bride-to-be or the maid of honor, this event is calling to you. My Big Fair Wedding Day takes place on June 29th and covers all things wedding related. Industry professionals are there to help you learn how to plan your perfect wedding and see the latest in wedding trends. If you have nuptials in your future, this event is for you.
  4. Although events are a great way to make a day out of the fair and offer a unique experience, don’t miss out on the vendor areas. Shopping at the fair can help you score some unique home décor, gifts and other crafts. Pro tip: bring a set amount of money.

Happy New Year! If 2014 is the year you are planning on buying a home, we we have 14 tips to make the home buying process a little easier.

Dream-home-planning
Before You Look
1. Get Pre-approved: Getting pre-approved will not only help determine what you can afford, it will also help when you are ready to make an offer.
2. Get professional help: Use an experienced agent, who will have your best interests at heart and who can help in the negotiating process.
3. Don’t try to time the market: Trying to anticipate the housing market is nearly impossible. The best time for you is when you’ve found your dream house in a price you can afford.
4. Get to know the neighborhood: This is the fun part! Get to know the area. Where the shops are, drive through the streets, look at the schools, even if you don’t have kids.
