Dance the night away and support a good cause at the Leapin’ Lizards! Catalina Island Conservancy Ball. For the past 20 years, supporters have enjoyed one of the most magnificent gala charity extravaganzas anywhere in the region while raising funds for the Catalina Island Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the conservation, education, and recreation programs of Catalina Island. This year’s ball features a 1920s theme as well as a silent auction, a performance by Society Beat and, best of all, a chance to rub elbows with some of the most prominent boosters of one of Southern California’s most beautiful environments.

Santa Ana Bubblefest

Your little ones (and maybe even you) might want to become a scientist after seeing Bubblefest this year–a bubble scientist, that is. Bubble scientist Deni Yang will work his magic at the Mega Bubblefest Laser Show, and the audience will get a sneak peek at the brand-new Showcase Theater. Be amazed by the tricks and stunts, and see smoking, spinning, bouncing bubbles and who knows what else? You can even learn the science behind the magic with hands-on activities ,and get to make your own giant bubbles. Parents, you might want to stock up on bubbles after you take the kids to this show.

This offseason, the Angels spent $15 million to add Roberto Baldoquin to their starting lineup. Acquiring the 20-year-old Cuban shortstop was seen as quite the coup by many experts throughout the baseball world, for even though Baldoquin has yet to prove himself in the majors, the Angels were willing to pay a large tax on top of his salary, in addition to capping their salary options on any more international contracts for the next two years.

Celebrate the Japanese art form of bonsai at the 58th Annual Bonsai Show in San Marino. The event features more than 100 specimens created by bonsai masters. Bonsai is different from similar practices because it grows small trees from regular stock and seeds, and uses cultivation techniques (pruning, root reduction, potting, etc.) to produce the small trees that mimic the full-size trees.
