Noteworthy home

If you recognize the 1920s-era apartment building turned condo at 3400 San Marino St. in Los Angeles’ Mid Wilshire district, congratulations. You’re a certified movie buff.

Penthouse Unit F in the building, which served as a location for 1954’s “Witness to Murder,” was just sold by sister agents Kim Halverson and Kristine Halverson of our Santa Monica real estate office. The sellers are also pretty well-known, humorist Christian Lander (“Stuff White People Like”) and his wife Jess, an advertising exec.

For more photos and a tour of the home in one of the last great old Hollywood-style residential buildings in L.A., check out Curbed Los Angeles and PopSugar.

Historic home for sale

A lost treasure has been found in Los Angeles. The Fleet House, acknowledged by the Los Angeles Conservancy as being a major part of one of the most “unusual and pedigreed chapters in the history of manufactured homes,” could be yours for $948,000.

The Fleet House was first occupied by Reginald Fleet, president of Southern California Homes, and his family in the late 1940s. It was a creative solution to the challenge of providing affordable single-family housing in a postwar economy. It is made of lightweight aluminum panels with a paper honeycomb core — innovative yet modest materials that created a look that no other home during its time resembled. The Fleet House may be the only structure still remaining that was designed, built, and pre-assembled entirely in an aircraft factory.

Noteworthy homes

Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bays Rays recently purchased a residence in West Hollywood for $1.95 million. The team’s slugging third baseman now calls the 1925 Spanish-style house home.

The 1,850-square-foot space was recently renovated, and its defining features are the courtyard entry, beamed ceilings, and arched doorways. The home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a formal dining room, an office, and an updated kitchen. Outside, the hedged grounds feature a patio, a courtyard and sitting area and a large lawn.

Noteworthy Homes

Before you even step into this 1956 post-and-beam, you’ll feel as though you’ve walked into a dream. The home, which backs a spring-fed creek in Montecito, is shaded by mature oaks and other trees, and sits on more than an acre of land.

Once inside, you’ll find no shortage of natural light. The open floor plan, walls of glass doors and windows, brick walls, and large wall fireplace will cause you to instantly fall in love. Other amenities include a three-bedroom guesthouse, a detached studio with its own bathroom, a patio swimming pool, and a fire pit.

This breathtaking property is listed by Montecito agent Marsha Kotlyar for $3.65 million, has five bedrooms, and 4.5 bathrooms. More pictures and information on this property, which was recently featured on L.A. Times Hot Property, can be found here.
