Summer Dream Home Contest

And the winner is …

This gorgeous San Diego home, located in Rancho Santa Fe, is the winner of our Summer Dream Home Contest! The competition took place from July 20 to July 24 on our Instagram page.

We asked our agents to send us their dreamiest listings then asked you to vote on one of the five contestant photos that you thought was the best listed in Southern California. By Friday at 4:30 p.m. the San Diego listing had 52 likes, beating its competition by over 20 likes.

Once you see the large, luxurious pool in the backyard, which overlooks an outstanding golf course and has a peek of the ocean in the distance, you’ll understand why this property is the perfect Summer Dream Home. This classic yet simple California home features a barrel-vaulted ceiling and large windows that let natural light in to provide a stunning visual experience. The backyard has a resort-like feel that guests can enjoy from the separate guest house that has a full bedroom and bath. More photos and information were posted on our Summer Dream Home Pinterest board and in a previous blog post.

Every person that voted on a listing by liking and tagging a friend was entered into a random drawing to win a $25 Amazon card. The winner was selected on Friday, July 24 and announced on Instagram.

This gorgeous home is listed for $3,799,000 by Mary Ann Bosanac and Nancy Bell. Mary Ann and Nancy can be contacted through the Rancho Santa Fe – Del Rayo office at 858.395.8076 mobile, 858.245.0921 mobile, mab@bhhscal.com or abell4u@cox.net.

stay cool with no ac

Sleepless in San Diego? Sweltering in Santa Barbara?

The debate over global warming goes on, but there’s no denying temperatures have been unseasonably hot in Southern California in recent weeks.

If you don’t have central air conditioning or multiple window units at home, life can get pretty uncomfortable. But the locals got by pretty well even before Frigidaire marketed the first room cooler in 1929–and so can you. (By the way, that first refrigeration unit used sulfur dioxide refrigerant, had a capacity of one ton (12,000 BTU), and was placed outside a house or in the basement).

An alternative to expensive central or evaporative systems are the waterless, portable a/c units that range from about $180 to $800, depending on BTU. Their beauty is they can be rolled from room to room and don’t need to be fitted into valuable window space.

Malibu real estate

A Malibu oasis

One of the most breathtaking architectural achievements ever built along the Malibu coast, the seaside retreat of a famed physician is currently the community’s highest-priced residential listing at $53 million.

The 8,000-square-foot vacation estate of Central Valley nephrologist Wei-Tzuoh Chen features elements of feng shui and is designed to be humble on the outside while achieving harmony with its natural surroundings.

The Sunwood Street Faire is almost here
One of the most hotly anticipated events in Orange County for 36 years running, this year’s Sunwood Street Faire is certain to shatter all expectations. A community-wide garage sale, the event has been hosted and sponsored by our real estate agent Brenda Flick since its inception.

This year more than 125 homes, many with multiple sellers, are planning to participate in the Sunwood Street Faire. It is scheduled for this weekend, July 25-226, near the area where El Toro Road intersects with Toledo Way and Serrano Road in Lake Forest.
