Join real estate and financial services professional for the fourth annual Women in Real Estate Conference on Nov. 5. The conference is hosted by the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate and featured keynote speaker Jean Kane, CEO of Welsh & Colliers International and the 2014 executive chairman of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Bess Wakeman and Jones Lang LaSalle will moderate a panel focused on the milliennial generation and how they will impact real estate markets and opportunities. Panelists include Kimberly Chanelle Clark, associate at Voit Real Estate Services; Daniele Horton, founder and principal of Verdani Partners; Melissa Scofield, associate of CBRE; and Kelly Souza, senior vice president and manager of the Wells Fargo Commercial Real Estate office in San Diego.

Since opening its Beverly Hills luxury department store in 1994, Barneys New York has been a staple for the fashion-forward residents of Southern California. But like fashion, design trends change and a fresh perspective is needed to stay current. Steven Harris Architects was called upon to bring that fresh perspective to the recent renovation of the Beverly Hills location. Both the first and fifth floors have experienced a chic remodel. Included in the beauty department makeover is a new location on the lower level featuring 9,000 square feet of cosmetics, the addition of Crème de La Mer and Mila Moursi spa treatment rooms, and a Blow Bar by Valery Joseph.

An epic drought requires an epic response. The San Diego City Council approved groundbreaking water-use restrictions to go into effect on Nov. 1, 2014, that will dramatically affect all 1.3 million residents of America’s eighth-largest city.

Voluntary conservation efforts began in July, but the San Diego residents must conform to the following new restrictions to curtail their water use or face escalating levels of fines other legal sanctions:

For children around the world, Halloween is one of the best nights of the year. After all, when else can they dress however they choose and stock up on endless amounts of candy? While the spirit of the holiday is meant to be celebrated in good fun, Halloween can be dangerous if children and their parents aren’t careful. Follow these tips to ensure that you have both a spooky and safe Halloween.

  1. Plan your route. Planning in advance where you’ll be going can help you and your child stay on the same page and avoid getting lost. Some families may not live in a trick-or-treat-friendly area. If you’re traveling outside your neighborhood, consider showing your child the route before the holiday.
  2. Plan your group. Avoid trick-or-treating alone at all costs. If you can’t go with your child, ensure that they are with another trusted adult. Consider forming a group in your neighborhood to walk together. There is safety in numbers.
