National Night Out (NNO) Against Crime is an annual event that takes place throughout the United States. NNO is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

This year, Cindi Powalski from our Mission Viejo office once again attended the Lake Forest event. She and her team dedicated their booth to missing persons and what to do in the event that a loved one does go missing.

Her involvement goes well beyond the annual event, though. She is an acting member of the Orange County Sheriff Department Reserve Search and Rescue Unit. Members of this unit are on call 24/7 to assist in the search for missing persons, as well as for other reasons. They conduct ground searches and use bloodhounds when necessary, and mutual aid takes them into other counties, such as San Diego.

“As a REALTOR®, community is the most important thing to me,” Powalski said. “I work hard to promote neighborhood ‘friendliness’ in order to keep our families safe. Knowing about the city you live in is vital for future growth and safety, so I nurture it by participating in as many events as I am able.”

Powalksi and her team handed out fliers with literature discussing the myths about missing persons, what you should do and who you should call should someone you know go missing. The gift basket, pictured above, contained almost $100 worth of personal-defense items, such as a flashlight, whistle, solar-powered cell phone charger, first-aid kit, and more.

Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale, star of the new TBS television series “Clipped,” has sold the custom-built home her father built for her in Toluca Lake. You might also recognize the actress from “High School Musical” (2006), and as the current voice of Candace in the animated series “Phineas and Ferb.”

The buyer was represented by our agent Andrew Teshinsky, and bought the Spanish-style house for $2.3 million. The home, built by Michael J. Tisdale Construction in 2008 for Ashley, now 30, is monitored by a surveillance camera, and has walls that surround the 3,406-square-foot home and grounds.

Selling your home in August

If you’re thinking about selling your home, you’ve probably heard that spring is the best time of the year to do so. The cooler spring temperatures make looking at homes and moving in and out easier than in the heat of the summer months. But just because things are heading up here in Southern California doesn’t mean you should wait until fall or even next spring to sell your home. Each season comes with struggles and benefits for buyers and sellers alike.

Why are there fewer summer buyers?

best outdoor patio

In Southern California, we are no strangers to outdoor living spaces. In fact, we demand them.

If you’re trying to create or spruce up your outdoor living space before summer ends, here are a few characteristics you should think about. Once you’re finished with your backyard makeover, you’ll have the perfect patio where you can relax, entertain, or enjoy Sunday brunch with family and friends.

Incorporate bright colors
Show off your personality. You can have more fun in your outdoor space by adding bold colors or fun patterns. Try to incorporate colors that are already found in your yard or home, and add bright colors to them.

You can also get creative around holidays, adding red, white, and blue paper lanterns for the Fourth of July, or green table settings for St. Patrick’s Day.
