Whether you’re of Irish heritage or just love all things Celtic, San Diego’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish celebration is an event the whole family can enjoy. Start your morning at the parade—the largest west of the Mississippi—and view more than 120 entries including bagpipers, high school marching bands, police and fire departments, floats, dancing groups, marching and equestrian units, clowns, dignitaries and honorees, representatives from Ireland, antique cars, and more. The theme of this year’s parade is “Celebrating Faith and Freedom.” After the procession, head over to Balboa Park for live entertainment on two stages. San Diego events

What:
After the tragic passing of high school athlete and scholar Chelsea King while she was out on a training run in 2010, the San Diego running community decided to honor her memory and finish her run for her. Turnout was so high that her parents decided to repeat the event each year to help spread the word about “Chelsea’s Law” and commemorate their daughter’s legacy.

Now her memory is celebrated each year as the Finish Chelsea’s Run 5k Run/Walk, a charity event that benefits the Chelsea’s Light Foundation Sunflower Scholarship Fund. The fund helps provide scholarships for college-bound teens throughout San Diego that embody Chelsea’s dual focuses of academic and athletic devotions. To date, this fundraising drive has provided over $85,000 in scholarships to deserving students around the county.

Carlsbad flower fields

If traffic slows on Interstate 5 near Carlsbad between March 1 and May 10, it’s often because drivers are sneaking a peek at The Flower Fields. The 50-acre site on a hillside overlooking the Pacific is in full bloom then, and who can blame motorists for wanting to catch a glimpse of the spectacular display?

Row upon row of multicolored gladioli, ranunculi, petunias and other flowers carpet the site, which attracts more than 125,000 visitors annually. There’s plenty to do besides walking through the fields, soaking in the beauty and snapping selfies.

Outfitters to the inherently chic, The Row has introduced its newest must-have accessory, the Market bag—a trapezoidal tote in dreamy pink suede that tops our list of “it” bags for the season. Round ring handles crafted in Italy out of multilayered rosewood were inspired by “the lining and aesthetic of Riviera boats,” say designers Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. With such attention to detail, it’s no wonder the twin sisters were the 2014 recipients of the esteemed Accessories Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

hot tub owner technology

Now that we use smartphones and tablets to remotely control and monitor devices in our homes, cars, and offices, can the backyard be far behind?

If you own a hot tub, the future has arrived.

Manufacturers have long offered TV-type remotes that can turn a hot tub on or off, adjust water temperature, control lighting, and perform other basic functions. But the Internet of Things delivers apps that do far more.
