The corporate headquarters of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties has relocated to a state-of-the-art, Class-A office building in The Heights at Del Mar at 12770 El Camino Real, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92130.
“This new office makes a statement about how much we care about our employees. It’s bright, open, airy, and a pleasant place to spend the workday,” said Mary Lee Blaylock, President and CEO. “The architecture and interiors are sleek and modern, with cool features like a private wooden deck, complete with chairs and tables for outdoor dining. Plus, it’s just steps away from great restaurants and shopping. It’s really an office for the 21st century.”
Each office and workstation is configured with new high-tech, ergonomic office furniture, including stand-or-sit desks that encourage people to get up on their feet and move around. A “wellness room” allows employees to take a break in a quiet, relaxing setting, and they can work out in an onsite fitness center. A large indoor kitchen with floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass doors opens to the deck area.
Other features include a large reception area; a cutting-edge training room with a modular conference table that can be segmented for small, intimate classes; five conference rooms of varying sizes; and compact storage space as an incentive to move to electronic storage while reducing clutter and paper use.
The building is adjacent to the new One Paseo mixed-use complex, which offers full-service retail space, an expansive recreation center, a parcourse outdoor fitness trail, basketball and volleyball courts, and a swimming pool. Also within walking distance is Del Mar Highlands Town Center, a major shopping destination with restaurants, grocery stores, specialty shops, and movie theaters.
“We chose a setting where people can feel at home when they come to work,” Mary Lee said. “This type of configuration has already shown huge benefits and higher productivity in our new Beverly Hills office on Rodeo Drive, with a more collaborative feel. We’re stepping up and staying current with the trends in office design.
“What’s so wonderful about our new headquarters is that it joins all of our departments onto one floor in an atmosphere that allows us to collaborate and thrive even more,” Mary Lee said. “When we take care of our people, it translates to great service to our customers.”
The three-story, LEED Gold™ targeted building showcases state-of-the-art design and efficiency within an amenity-rich environment. Designed to appeal to vibrant companies whose focus is to attract and retain top talent, the building features steel-frame construction, floor-to-ceiling glass, a top-floor balcony, numerous onsite and offsite amenities and collaborative indoor/outdoor workspaces. Additional amenities include a patio with gas barbecue, and a 600-person outdoor amphitheater. A waterfall cascades into a soothing stream that meanders throughout the campus, which is bordered by neighborhood walking paths. Ample onsite parking includes charging stations for hybrid and electric vehicles. The campus is close to on- and off-ramps for Interstate 5 and state route 56.
