This year, we were privileged to hear about many Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties agents and offices that committed to giving back to their communities. A few stories in particular really stood out, such as Susan Stearns, an agent from our Calabasas office who won the 2015 Good Neighbor Award for her many years of work with New Horizons, and the agents from our La Jolla office who propelled down the 40-story, 497-foot-high Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Diego for brain cancer research.

Laws about foreign real estate

When President Barack Obama signed the $1.1 trillion spending measure Congress passed on Dec. 18, he wiped out a 35-year-old tax imposed on foreign investors in the U.S. The measure, which helped avoid a government shutdown, now treats foreign pension funds the same as their U.S. counterparts so far as real estate investments are concerned. While it’s hard to predict specifics, there could be broad consequences on residential as well as commercial property prices around the country. (more…)
